Organization: the first step to successful change management

change process organize reframe change model Apr 04, 2023

You've heard the age-old proverb, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." This phrase couldn't be truer when it comes to change management. Step one of the REFRAME Change Management Model is to get organized, and that's exactly what we're going to do. So, lace up your shoes and let's get started!

What Does It Mean to Get Organized?

Organizing the change effort means having a clear understanding of what, why, how, who, when and where of the change project. It also includes creating a comprehensive project charter that outlines the goal of the project and its timeline. Additionally, you'll need to build relationships with your sponsors and influencers so they can help support your efforts. Finally, you'll need to design a tailored change approach that includes each of the steps in the model.

Why Is Organization Important?

The success of any change project depends on its organization. If you don't have a solid foundation from which to work from, then chances are you won't reach your desired outcome. Additionally, if you don't communicate your goals clearly and often enough throughout the process then people may not understand or be on board with what is expected from them. Having an organized plan makes sure everyone is on the same page—and that's always important!

How Can Leaders Help?

Leaders play an integral role in successful change management projects by providing guidance and helping socialize the change story and approach with executives for advanced advocacy. They can also provide insight into potential roadblocks or areas of opportunity so you can better prepare yourself for whatever may come your way during this journey.

As they say, getting organized is half the battle when it comes to successful change management projects! By taking these initial steps—creating a comprehensive project charter; building relationships with sponsors and influencers; designing a tailored change approach—you're setting yourself up for success down the road. Partner closely with leaders throughout this process so they can provide guidance as needed. With all that said—let's get out there and start making some changes!
